I’m writing a novel–it’s my first work of fiction ever.
In it the female character is a rock-n-roll chick who prefers “paper napkin Italians” for dinner and dim clubs where the music is louder than her thoughts.
The literary reading I read a scene at was chock full of performers who were anti-Mr. Toupee all around. You see things differently when you know people living in America who are most likely going to be deported back to countries where their lives are in danger.
The statistic is that 1.7 billion Muslims live in the world total. Should our country’s number-one focus really be stopping the terrorism that only a tiny fraction of those 1.7 BILLION Muslims commits?
Our government is seriously screwed up when it practices guilt-by-association to corral all people from Muslim countries who live in America as potential terrorists.
A lot of the people who fled those countries to come here simply wanted a better life for themselves and their families. In their own countries they’d be raped or killed or turned into child soldiers.
I don’t like the sick thinking of elected leaders who try to pass off their policies as rational thought. Analyze these policies and these lines of thinking in detail and you see they’re shot through with Swiss cheese holes. The rational thought doesn’t hold up under scrutiny.
As well we really can’t be sitting in judgment of women who are considering having an abortion. For numerous reasons it might actually be more ethical not to carry a baby to term if the baby is going to have permanent damage or only live outside their mother’s womb for five or six days because they have a birth defect.
I don’t know about you however I wouldn’t want to carry to term a baby who is going to need to be hooked up to a ventilator for the rest of their lives.
I really wish people would stop judging women who choose to have abortions. I really wish people would stop stereotyping everyone who comes here from a so-called Muslim country. I really wish people with disordered thinking weren’t running our country now.
At the literary reading a woman from the Congo sung a song in her own language. I didn’t understand the words yet it was beautiful. Her family escaped because they were on a hit list–they were going to be killed.
It’s time to shut off the TV. It’s time to think beyond the parameters of our own pain. It’s time to listen to others and to understand them.
Hate isn’t acceptable. Nor is any violence or killing acceptable.
The end doesn’t justify the means.
Go to a literary reading instead of watching Keeping Up with the Kardashians.
Do something to advocate for others who are less fortunate.

It’s time to get real. We have elected a madman.
